Distal Phalangeal Band Saw Amputation

A 34-year-old woodworking enthusiast suffered a traumatic amputation of his left index fingertip from a band saw, losing soft tissue, nail bed, and bone. With no tissue available for grafting, the wound was treated using an FDA-cleared botanical hydrogel known for its antimicrobial and pH-balancing properties. Over a 30-day period—without antibiotics—daily dressing changes and hydrogel application led to full regeneration of the finger, including soft tissue, bone, nail, and fingerprints. No infections occurred. This case highlights the hydrogel’s unique effectiveness in accelerating healing and preventing infection, offering an innovative solution for complex traumatic injuries in outpatient settings.
